Let's first define picture. A picture is any graphic, in any format supported by
OS X -- such as PICT, PNG, Tiff, JPG, GIF, etc. In CalendarMaker 4 you could just
place icons and small PICT files in a day. Since your choice is now greater, we just
use the general word, picture.
There are several places to place a picture, and at least two different ways to do
each. The different methods may each produce slightly different results.
Background pictures
A background picture can be placed on a page, on a day or other part of a calendar
element, in an event, in a mini-calendar or in a Note (formerly called a floating
note).
1) Dragging it directly from the picture browser. If you want the picture
on the page, this method will only work if there is an unused area of the page, otherwise
it will place it in the background of what is at that location. Dragging it to the
page does not create a background picture. It actually creates a new element on your
calendar page that can be moved forward and backward, the same as other objects on
the page. To make it a background picture, hold down the Control key while dragging
it to the page.
2) Using the Inspector.
a) Inspector > Calendar & Layout Settings > Background.
This places the background picture on the page.
b) Inspector > Calendar Element Settings > Picture.
(After selecting the Calendar Element.) This places the background picture behind
the main Calendar Element.
c) Inspector > Calendar Element Settings > Picture.
(After selecting a mini-calendar.) This places the background picture behind the
mini-calendar element.
d) Inspector > Calendar Element Settings > Picture.
(After selecting a Note.) This places the background picture behind the Note.
e) Inspector > Grid Part Appearance > Grid Part -
Selected Parts > Picture. This places the background picture behind the selected
day, month title, or day title - whatever you had selected.
Using the Inspector is the preferred method because the Inspector gives you adjustment
controls.
Background pictures may be invisible depending on the opacity of the object in front.
Also, background pictures may make text difficult to read. Text does not wrap around
a background picture.
Imbedded pictures
1) A picture can be imbedded with the text in an event, in a Note, or into any custom
text added to the Month/Year title. This is accomplished by making the text active
as if you were editing it, then dragging the picture from the picture browser. This
method does not allow any editing of the picture. The advantage is that the picture
is treated as if it were a character in the text string. (You may wish to type the
text and then imbed the picture. Any text typed immediately to the right of the picture
will pick up the imaginary font and size of the picture - always Helvetica 12 point.)
2) A picture in a frame can be imbedded into event text with the Inspector.
Inspector > Event Settings > Picture. This will work if the event
or the event text is selected. The picture will not be visible while in text edit
mode. The picture's frame can be moved horizontally on the first line of the event.
The text will wrap around this frame. The picture can be scaled and moved within
its frame. The frame size is also adjustable. |
