| Changing the width of a day column affects all months in the current calendar layout.
(Changing the height of a week affects only the current month.) Hold down the Command and Option keys and click and hold on the line between the day columns. Hint: if you are having trouble clicking on the line at exactly the correct spot, try clicking one pixel to the right of the line. Also, just clicking on a line may cause it to move one point (pixel). (This is not critical in that you were planning on moving it anyway.) The tip window gives you a percentage and point (pixel) width of the day to the left and the point width of the day to the right. The percentage is the cumulative percentage from the left edge of the calendar. A normal 7-day week would have the following percentages, 14% (1/7); 29% (2/7); 43% (3/7); 57% (4/7); 71% (5/7); and 86% (6/7). Because sevenths are odd fractions, its normal to not have all days of equal width, even when you want them equal. To make Wednesday and Sunday wider we need to do some algebra. Let's assume you want these two days to be 20% instead of each 14%. This means that the other 5 days each get 1/5 of the remaining 60%. (The 60% is 100% less the 20% for Wednesday and the 20% for Sunday.) Dividing 5 into 60% means that these other 5 days each get 12%. Calculating the cumulative percentage for each line we get: The Sunday-Monday line = 20% The Monday-Tuesday line = 32% The Tuesday-Wednesday line = 44% The Wednesday-Thursday line = 64% The Thursday-Friday line = 76% The Friday-Saturday line = 88% Now start by adjusting the line between Sunday and Monday, setting it to 20%. Then proceed to the right, setting each line to its cumulative percent. To cancel your width adjustments and return to the default settings, hold the Command and Option keys down and double-click on any one of the vertical lines between days. |
